Named after its founder, Stephen Bell, Bellbrook’s name is a combination of his name and Little Sugar Creek. Although Bellbrook was originally two words when it was founded in 1817, it took its current form of one word in 1895. Throughout the years most of the land annexed into Bellbrook came from Sugarcreek Township. The first land annexation was in 1970, which increased Bellbrook’s population to more than 5,000. Eventually, in 1974, Bellbrook became an official city. With large amounts of undeveloped land area at the time, Bellbrook had more than 1,000 housing units constructed after its last annexation. Because it’s all developed today, officials in Bellbrook there’s not much room for any real future real estate development. Every year in April, the city hosts the annual Sugar Maple Festival. Then in August, it has its annual Lions Club Festival.
